For me and many others, praying the scripture is a powerful way in which to release God’s authority over our lives, our families and our nations. In preparation for 2016, here is my list of 16 short prayers from the Bible that we can pray for the new season ahead. If you are really interested in enjoying a happy new year, I encourage you to pray these prayers with an earnest and humble heart.
1. The prayer of Moses. “Please, show me Your glory”. Exodus 33:18
2. The prayer of Joshua. “What does My Lord say to His servant”. Joshua 5:14
3. The prayer of Samuel. “Speak, for Your servant is listening”. 1 Samuel 3:10
4. The prayer of Solomon. “Give to Your servant and understanding heart”. 1 Kings 3:9
5. The prayer of Elijah. “Let it be known this day that You are God in Israel”. 1 Kings 18:36
6. The prayer of Elisha. “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see”. 2 Kings 6:17
7. The prayer of Hezekiah. “Save us, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord God, You alone”. 2 Kings 19:19
8. The prayer of Nehemiah. “Oh Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy”. Nehemiah 1:11
9. The prayer of Job. “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You”. Job 42:2
10. The prayer of David. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. Psalm 139:23-24
11. The prayer of Jeremiah. “Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored”. Lamentations 5:21
12. The prayer of Daniel. “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name”. Daniel 9:19
13. The prayer of Joel. “Spare Your people, O Lord, and do not give Your heritage to reproach”. Joel 2:17
14. The prayer of Habakkuk. “O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; in wrath, remember mercy”. Habakkuk 3:2
15. The prayer of Jesus. “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done”. Luke 22:42
16. The prayer of the Disciples. “Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus”. Acts 4:29-30
